DBF, or dBASE, is a database management system. Vulcan was the original version of the DBF file, and Wayne Ratliff created it. Ashton Tate Corporation bought Vulcan in 1981 and marketed the DBF file as dBASE II. Older versions of the DBF file include dBASE III, III+ and IV, but Windows 95 operating systems and higher support dBASE PLUS for storing importing and exporting data. To fix a corrupted or damaged DBF, you must download a repair tool to recover the file.
